It
is music that has origin in the Countries of celtic language (Ireland,
Scotland, Wales, Brittany,
Galicia) or
that comes from
areas which have come under the influence of celtic culture
(such as the
US and the maritime provinces of Canada or also some parts of
Italy) but above all it is a particular kind of music, a style in which the
melodic line prevails on the harmonic elements creating unique sounds and
magical atmospheres.
The
voice has been for centuries the main means of transmission of the
expressions of arts, religious rituals, social rules; a patrimony that,
handed on orally, has reached us. Singing had a particular
consideration in cultural and social life of the Celts which,
entrusting to the figure of the Bard the role of poet and storyteller,
divulged and spread songs and compositions in all Europe. Still today
the voice represents the main element of this kind of music and with its
typical and numerous embellishments it comes recognized, and therefore
employed, as a musical instrument.
The Course
The
course has the object to approach to one culture and in particular to a
genre of music in a simple and
immediate way, guaranteeing a sure involvement since the first encounter.
Different
to the classic model of singing study (for type of formation and
arguments) the approach to music is practical and closely legacy
to the original concept of the learning method of popular
singing.
The program
The
program is divided in two parts; during the first one are supplied
knowledges on fundamental concepts of singing: respiration, vocal
emission, the working, the use and the development of the voice, etc. in
order to reach a level base of vocal ability necessary to
start the second phase. At this point the program begins with the execution
of the repertoire of selected traditional songs of Ireland, Wales, Scotland
and England.
The
songs
The
repertoire is composed of traditional songs that represent the three main
forms of song (the ballad, the air and the lament) The compositions
cover a period that goes from 1500 to 1900 in order to analyze a rather wide arc
of time and to have, therefore, a chronological vision of the style
evolution of traditional music.
